If you are a parent or have been around parents, you have probably heard or said words like: “Oh, I hope I don’t ever forget that cute thing she just said!” For my husband Jay and myself, many such words—cute, silly or just ingenious—have found their way into our everyday vocabulary. They come from our kids, our friends’ kids, our neices and nephews, and even from our own childhoods.
So I decided to preserve some of these words in this unique alphabet book. It has words from other languages because many children, like mine, are exposed to words and sounds from everywhere. It also has completely new words made up by babes, just because they needed a word and didn’t know the one in the dictionary!
This book also has multiple entries for some letters; sometimes it was just too hard to pick from my huge list. Of course, like all my books, each word comes with a story that makes this simple alphabet book a tale of many childhoods.
This book is dedicated to people who want to preserve those cute words, to bi-lingual families who juggle with many words and sounds, and of course, to adults who are learning new words even today.
In 2010 LeLeMeNoPe: Collection of Mis-Spoken First Words etc, was accepted in an Abecedarian Gallery show, Abecedaries—a Reading Room Exhibition, Denver, CO.
