Making a Handmade Storybook with artist Sushmita Mazumdar

Sushmita's unique bookmaking class is designed to give you a creative 90 minutes. A book artist, she will show you how to make 3-D, house-shaped book in which you can write and draw personal stories. Sushmita will use her Handmade Storybook, “Mangli, the very Special Goat” to illustrate how she shares a real-life story from a very different time in India.

Come make your own book and write your own story. Time permitting, participants may share a few of their stories.

Sushmita will also share the link to her project for the Smithsonian called Family Memory Storybooks with many bookmaking videos and instruction handouts.

A kit with some materials to make this book will be mailed to each participant. It will include a sheet of art paper for the bookmaking and a bamboo paper creaser. A video of the session will be available later, if needed. No experience needed.
