Homework (2011)

When challenged to make a miniature book, I wondered what story would fit in a small container. Then I remembered a homework assignment from 8th grade.

When a member of our Arlington Writer’s Group, Ted, first read the book, holding it in one palm, he picked a page from the box, read it, and placed it upside down next to the box. “Don’t sneeze when you read it,” he warned the others.

“Don’t worry, Ted. It has page numbers,” I explained. “It’s the number of matchsticks on each page.”

This book is dedicated to Mrs. Dean, my school principal; Mrs. Suri, my 8th grade teacher; and Barbara W., who insisted that I try making a miniature book. And to everyone else who encourages fresh ideas and thinking outside “the box.”
